This article is a literature study on algebraic reasoning with examples of characteristics of algebraic reasoning of seventh graders. Algebra is a branch of mathematics involving symbols and studying about the structure of abstraction system on computation and relations, as well as modeling and solving equations. To understand algebra requires reasoning ability, where the ability is very closely related to drawing conclusions. Algebraic reasoning is essential for understanding algebra, as algebraic capability is important for the mastery of mathematical contents. Due to its importance, teachers are expected to have a clearer and more comprehensive understanding of algebraic reasoning so they could apply it in mathematics learning appropriately.
