The "Consultative Committee for the Safeguarding of Borobudur" is an advisory body set up by the Indonesian Government in January 1973 in compliance with Unesco's wish. The Consultative Committee meets at least once a year in Indonesia (Jakarta, Yogyakarta/Borobudur) to evaluate the progress of the restoration work so far accomplished and to lay down a program for the next phase of work. For this purpose progress reports and papers resulting from various special studies were prepared. These documents, presented to the Consultative Committee during its last 10 (ten) meetings, have gradually become a most valuable source of information concerning all the activities involved in the Borobudur restoration project. To distinguish the present Series from the earlier ones, the code CC will be used. Thus Series CC No. 1 denotes: the report on the first meeting, and the papers prepared for and presented to that meeting.
