The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of the soil
surface insects decomposers of tropical lowland forest at the Arboretum and
UNILAK campus complex with an area of 9.2 ha. This research was conducted at
the Moon March-July 2014 Forest Arboretum and Campus Zone UNILAK
Pekanbaru. Research Methods by using pitfall traps or traps traps placed in
homogeneous forests (campus) and heterogeneous forests (Arboretum). Data
collection techniques using purposive sampling. Samples of insects were identified
and the data obtained through laboratory analysis in biology education. The
results obtained through observations we can conclude that there are as many as
six orders of the Formicidae, Vespidaceae, Gryllinae, Coleoptera, Siphonoptera,
Diptera. Group orders of the highest number of individuals who are on the order
Formicidae found the number of 114 individuals in heterogeneous forest and 16
forest homogeneous. While Their diversity in heterogeneous forests is high
whereas homogeneous forest is low.
