This research was conducted to study the ability of local aquatic makrophyte to reduce
the concentration of pollutant from home industry wastewater (laundry) through phytoremediation
process. Parameters observed in this research were physico-chemistry characteristics of
wastewater laundry. Based on characteristics analysis of wastewater laundry at 4 stations in
Rumbai Pekanbaru, there were found that the wastewater categorized as polluted. There were four
local aquatic makrophytes found from the identification; they were melati air (Echinodorus
palaefolius), enceng gondok (Eichhornia crassipes) kayu apu (Pistia stratiotes) dan kangkung air
(Ipomoea aquatic). The ability of phytoremediation process of aquatic makrophyte to increased the
quality of wastewater laundry were analyzed for 20 days. After 20 days, the local aquatic
makrophyte were reduced the physico-chemistry parameters of wastewater laundry. Kangkung air
(Ipomoea aquatic) gave the highest ability to reduce the concentration of phosphate of wastewater
laundry as compared to the other.
