This course provides a foundational understanding of civil engineering by exploring infrastructures, their impact on the economy and environment, and the role of civil engineers in development. It introduces common construction materials such as stones, bricks, sand, lime, cement, mortar, concrete, and steel, along with their properties and uses. Students gain knowledge of basic building construction elements like beams, columns, slabs, foundations, walls, floors, roofs, doors, windows, lintels, and staircases. The course also covers surveying concepts including linear and angular measurements, traverse plotting, and error handling, followed by leveling techniques, instruments, and methods. Together, these topics equip students with essential skills and insights into the principles and practices of civil engineering.
